What exactly is Prep?

Prep is a complete GCSE support programme that brings expert teaching, focused practice and regular feedback together—so your child knows what to work on, how to improve and who to turn to when they’re stuck.

If “I don’t know how to revise” or “I understand it in class, but can’t do it in the exam” sounds familiar, that’s where Prep comes in. We start by identifying your child’s strengths and gaps, then give their learning structure through live lessons in English, Maths and Science, with familiar specialist teachers each week.

Our Teach. Check. Practice. approach keeps learning moving beyond the lesson. Fortnightly assessments and personalised feedback help your child put their knowledge into practice, tackle misunderstandings and build confidence—and help you see how they’re getting on.

It’s more than an extra hour of tuition. It’s a joined-up programme that gives your child direction, routine and ongoing support throughout their GCSE preparation, so you don’t have to piece it all together yourself.

Will Prep match what my child is learning at school?

Schools teach GCSE topics in different orders, so our lessons won’t always match what your child is studying that week.

Our curriculum focuses on high-impact exam topics—the knowledge and skills that feature regularly in GCSE papers—alongside the techniques students need to turn understanding into marks.

Through our Teach. Check. Practice. approach, we revisit essential concepts, identify gaps and build confidence applying learning to exam questions. Prep complements school lessons with focused practice and exam preparation.

What subjects do you offer?

Maths, Science and English. Science covers Biology, Chemistry and Physics for both Triple and Combined Science. English covers both Language and Literature.

Which exam boards do you cover?

Maths and Science: AQA, Edexcel and OCR. English: AQA only.

Do you cover Edexcel IGCSE?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with important limits. English is an almost 100% match, as is Maths (however IGCSE papers are fully calculator). In Science, there is roughly 90% crossover with our GCSE curriculum content, but there are a few topics not covered. We will tell you exactly which during consultation.

Which English Literature texts do you cover?

We cover the following GCSE English Literature texts and poetry:

Shakespeare: Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth

19th-century novel: A Christmas Carol

Modern texts: An Inspector Calls and Lord of the Flies

Poetry anthologies: Power and Conflict, and Love and Relationships

Unseen poetry: strategies for analysing and comparing unfamiliar poems

Lessons develop students’ understanding of themes, characters and writers’ methods, alongside the essay-writing skills needed for the exam.

What if my child studies an English Literature text you do not cover?

Tell us the exact text. English Language is skill-based and remains useful across boards, but Literature is text-dependent. If the text is outside our list, we will tell you straight away.

How many lessons are there each week?

Maths: 1 lesson. Science: 2 lessons. English: 2 lessons. A student taking all three subjects has 5 hours of live lessons per week.

Can my child join partway through the school year?

Yes, subject to availability. Our curriculum revisits important exam topics and skills, so your child doesn’t need to have attended from the beginning to benefit.

What happens after I sign up?

We’ll confirm your child’s subjects, lesson timetable and how to access their online lessons. We’ll also explain our Teach. Check. Practice. approach and how assessments, feedback and parent reporting work. You and your child will also then get access to our online platform.

How do you decide which Maths group is right for my child?

We’ll ask about their current working grade, the tier they’re studying at school and any areas they find difficult. This helps us recommend the most suitable Foundation or Higher group.

Will my child need to catch up on lessons they’ve missed?

They won’t need to complete every previous lesson before joining. We’ll help them identify any essential knowledge they need for upcoming topics and suggest focused practice where appropriate.

Can my child add or change subjects after joining?

You can request a package change, subject to availability in the relevant classes. We’ll confirm the new timetable, monthly price and when the change will take effect.

Can my child move between Foundation and Higher Maths groups?

Yes, where a move would better suit their learning needs and a place is available. We’ll consider their assessment work and discuss the change with you. Moving tuition groups does not change their school’s exam entry tier - you will need to make sure you discuss this with their school.

What happens if our availability changes?

Can we pause tuition for a holiday or other break?

Prep runs throughout the year, including school holidays. If you’re planning a break, contact us before your next payment. Short pauses are available if you are going away during the summer holidays.

How do I cancel, and how much notice do I need to give?

Contact us to cancel. Access normally continues for the paid period. If there is any account-specific question about the final access date, contact support so the billing and access dates can be checked together.

Can my child re-join after a break?

When does tuition finish for Year 11 students?

Our programmes are built around small live groups because that is where we see the strongest results and engagement as students ask and answer questions that support each other. It is also a less intimidating environment for a child that is perhaps underconfident.

We have some limited availability for 1:1 sessions if you feel this would be of benefit to your child, at an additional fee. Please ask us about this during the initial consultation and we will do all we can to accommodate.

Is my child too far behind to start?

Almost never. Students join us mid-Year 10 and mid-Year 11 all the time. The consultation is where we say honestly what is realistic in the time available.

When do live lessons take place?

All live lessons run on weekday evenings, UK time, so your child can settle after school first. Our current GCSE (KS4) timetable is shown below. Every lesson is recorded and released the same day, so a missed session can always be caught up.

Do you cover KS3 or A level?

GCSE is our focus today. We do offer home education daytime groups for Year 8 and year 9, and evening KS3 programmes are next on our roadmap — tell us during your consultation and we will contact you when Year 7 to 9 groups open.

Prep lessons are delivered by carefully selected subject specialists with strong GCSE knowledge and a clear understanding of exam requirements. Our tutors explain difficult ideas clearly, keep students engaged and help them develop the techniques needed to gain marks.

Primarily, yes. On the odd exceptional where a teacher does not have QTS, they have demonstrated to us that they have exceptional subject knowledge and have experience in supporting students through the required GCSE specifications.

Billing is processed as a monthly subscription through Stripe. You’ll be asked to set up a secure card payment when you join, and the fee is collected automatically each month. If you need to pause, change or cancel, just contact us with seven days’ notice.
